Interactive Map Instructions and Features
Welcome to the UMaine Extension tick testing results map. This map is updated daily and provides county and town level data on our tick testing results.
This map has a number of layers that can be shown and hidden to disply only the data of your interest. By default, the map loads the town-by-town dataset for every deer tick we have ever tested. To change the data being displayed, click the layers icon (blue diamond) in the upper right-hand corner of the map. Next, click on the layer you would like to see or hide. A layer highlighted in blue will be visible, while those in white will not. Multiple layers can be selected at the same time but only the topmost layer can be interacted with.
The tick testing results for each locality (both town or county) can be displayed by clicking within the borders of that location. However, for locations that are shaded gray, there are currently no tick testing data available. To close the data from a selected location, simply click on another locality. To search for a town, click on the magnifying glass in the upper left corner, begin typing, and click on the desired town name that is displayed to automatically zoom to that location.
Prevalence information is displayed for each locality, regardless of the number of samples tested. Statistically speaking, the prevalence rates for small data sets will likely be incorrect. Prevalence rates from locations with less than 25 tests completed should be considered unreliable.
This map currently only displays deer tick testing data. Dog tick testing data will be added in the future, once available.
